Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior official stated the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
